Frequently asked questions
Should I save or invest?
MoneyHelper’s rule of thumb: save for anything you need within five years and for emergencies; only invest money you will not need for at least five years, accepting it can fall in value.
Is my savings protected if my bank fails?
Cash with a UK regulated institution is FSCS protected up to £120,000 per person, per institution. Spread larger sums across institutions.
What does AER tell me?
The total interest you would earn in a year, as a percentage, accounting for compounding. It is the fairest way to compare accounts.
