Tomorrow to Watch

The scheduled economic news that can move markets on Wednesday 7 October 2026, in UK times:

  • All day: China markets closed. China is on its National Day holiday, which runs through Wednesday, so Asian trading is quieter than usual and some moves can look bigger in thin trading.
  • 7:00am: Lloyds House Price Index M/M (UK, September). A monthly measure of UK house prices. Markets expect a rise of 0.2%, after a fall of 0.2% last time. It usually moves UK housebuilder shares first, and a big surprise can nudge the pound and mortgage rate expectations.
  • 7:00am: German Industrial Production M/M (August). This measures output from German factories, a quick check on demand in Europe’s biggest factory economy. Markets expect a rise of 1.4%, after a fall of 1.1% last time. It usually moves the euro first, so it can nudge EUR/GBP.
  • 3:30pm: EIA Crude Oil Stocks Change (US, week ending 2 October). The weekly change in US commercial crude oil stocks, published by the Energy Information Administration. Last time stocks rose by 0.922 million barrels. It usually moves Brent crude and oil company shares, because it shows whether US oil supply is building or drawing down.
  • 7:00pm: FOMC Minutes (US, 15 to 16 September meeting). The detailed record of the Federal Reserve meeting at which rates were raised. There is no single number to expect: markets read the wording for how united the committee was and how it weighed inflation against jobs. It usually moves the dollar, US shares and gold.
  • 8:00pm: Consumer Credit Change (US, August). This measures how much US consumers borrowed on cards, loans and other credit compared with the month before. Markets expect $15.2bn, after $18.06bn last time. It usually moves the dollar only modestly, unless it is a big surprise.

Times and expectations are taken from the published economic calendar and can change. We explain what each release is and what it usually moves; we do not predict which way markets will go.
