Tomorrow to Watch
The scheduled economic news that can move markets on Friday 9 October 2026, in UK times. There are no major UK data releases scheduled for Friday, so the main releases are overseas:
- 7:00am: Norwegian CPI (September). Norway’s monthly inflation reading, published by Statistics Norway. Markets expect headline inflation of around 3.6%, after 3.3% last time. It usually moves the Norwegian krone first, and it is watched in Europe because higher energy prices feed into inflation across the region.
- 1:30pm: Canadian Jobs Report (September). Statistics Canada’s monthly employment report, covering how many jobs Canada added or lost and the unemployment rate. Markets expect a gain of 9,500 jobs, with the unemployment rate at 6.5%, after 6.4% last time. It usually moves the Canadian dollar, and a big surprise can spill into wider market mood.
- 3:00pm: Michigan Consumer Sentiment Prel (US, October). The University of Michigan’s preliminary survey of how confident US households feel about their finances and the economy, including what inflation they expect. Markets expect a reading of around 48, after 48.1 last time. It usually moves the dollar, US shares and gold, because it can shift expectations for US interest rates.
- Scheduled: S&P credit rating review on the UK. The ratings agency S&P is scheduled to publish its latest review of the UK government’s credit rating. There is no single number to expect and no set publication time. A change in the rating or outlook can move the pound and UK government bond yields, because it changes how lenders view UK risk.
Times and expectations are taken from the published economic calendar and can change. We explain what each release is and what it usually moves; we do not predict which way markets will go.
